Q & A

What is Counselling?

Counselling allows you to explore various personal concerns in a confidential, safe environment, and make changes in your life with the help of a trained and empathic therapist.
Counselling can assist you in finding deeper self-awareness, healing old hurts, engaging more fully with your life.
Counselling can help you when you find yourself “stuck” and struggling to move forward in your life.
Counselling does not give you answers, but can help you develop new skills and awareness that will assist you in finding your way forward.

What is Spiritual Counselling?

Sometimes referred to as spiritual direction, soul friending, or spiritual companioning or mentoring, spiritual counselling focuses on accompanying people as they explore their relationship with the sacred, and their quest for a mature spirituality. It helps people look at their own spiritual lives and grow in understanding of how God may be working in their lives.
It, too, is a way of gaining insights into yourself, and learning to live more fully.
Spiritual counselling is not about telling you what to do or believe. It is about accompanying you as you explore your own questions about faith, spirituality, discernment, and God.

How do I work?

My background in counselling, spirituality, and the arts allows me to offer a holistic and integrated perspective to address your needs. My focus is on the well-being of the client, and I believe that well-being includes all aspects of a person — physical, emotional, cognitive, relational, spiritual. My work is informed by person-centered, experiential, cognitive-behavioural, and contemplative approaches.

Do I really need counselling?

If you are feeling distressed in areas of your life, and are searching for answers, engaging in a counselling relationship with a professional can be an important step forward. It allows you the opportunity to verbalize your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental context, and collaboratively explore how to work through them. Most people at some point in their lives can benefit from counselling or spiritual mentoring. If you feel that now is the right time for you to pursue either, please contact Eleanor to discuss your specific needs. She is eager to assist you along your journey.
